MRC/Grameen Cancer Center is currently under development and will be a comprehensive cancer center located north of Dhaka, Bangladesh. It will include state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment equipment for radiotherapy, radiosurgery, and brachytherapy, as well as facilities for stem cell transplantation and minimally invasive surgery. The center will be developed into a center of excellence, and will be supported by an international medical advisory board.
It is our commitment to offer state-of-the-art cancer treatment to the people of Bangladesh. The center is a joint venture between MRC and Grameen Kalyan, part of the Grameen group that was founded and developed by Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Prof. Muhammad Yunus. It will be managed as a social business, whereby part of the resources and equipment utilization will be dedicated to the poor and those with limited resources, while at the same time offering excellent quality of care.
The cancer center will be developed in three separate stages. The first stage will include diagnosis, simulation and radiotherapy equipment, as well as chemotherapy and patient services such as pain control programs, psychological support, cancer prevention programs and patient education programs. The second phase will add radiosurgery, brachytherapy, and stem cell implantation. The third phase will add advanced surgical rooms and a gamma knife for brain radiosurgery.
The healthcare center will include a treatment section for radiothereapy, brachytherapy, chemotherapy, and radiosurgery. It will have a diagnostic center with CT-scanner, X-ray, mammography, and other equipment. It will have a laboratory. It will have a ward section with 24 single bed rooms.
